ØàëóìîâBinyamin Shalumov - Ph. D., Professor, Academician a well-known figure in the world of science, unexpectedly for self and others re-discovers himself in the art of painting. Following a very successful and rewarding career in science and technology, Binyamin dedicates himself completely to the Visual Art, fulfilling his potential as a painter. He thinks, however, that his new life is not so different from the former scientific path: both science and art are creative fields. Graduated from Binyamin Shalumov was born in 1935 in the Republic of Dagestan. Groznyy College of Oil Industry. In 1970 Mr. Shalumov completed post-graduate studies at Moscow Institute of Electronic Technology. In the middle of 1970s Binyamin was appointed to lead as a Chief Chemist of the Ministry of Chemical Industry of the USSR in the area of pure chemical substances for Electronics and optics. In 1985 he successfully defended his Doctorate thesis and acquired the title of Ph.D. Mr. Shalumov was recognized as one of the most accomplished scientists and practitioners in the field of Fiber Optics in the USSR. In 1987 he acquired the title of Professor and t aught at Moscow Institute of Electronic Technology, Department of Physical Chemistry. Mr. Shalumov is the author of approximately 300 scientific articles and patented inventions.

In the last 9 years Binyamin produced an amazing body of work and achieved astonishing artistic accomplishments. A mountain climber in the past and an avid traveler, he masterfully uses his life experiences in his art. In his paintings the artist reflects a sharp and imaginative perception of reality at times literally, but more often translating it into his own language of imagery, where essence is highlight-ted, the extraordinary and unique is embraced.

At the core of Mr. Shalumov's art works lay uninhibited impressions of the present and sharp recollections of the past. His natural gift for such honesty is easily seen in his paintings driven by the concepts of harmony, openness and movement.

Following the footsteps of Impressionistic tradition, Binyamin possesses an individual, unique manner and techniques. He paints canvases of deep philosophical meaning, intimately emotional landscapes, portraits, character pieces, stills, expressive pastels, charcoal and pensile drawings.

The artist, who was born in Russia and currently resides in the US, is a Citizen of the World in its truest sense. He is equality "at home" painting American autumn foliage, sunset in Tel-Aviv, Swiss Alps mountaintops or landscapes of his native country. Summer 2006 is noted by the poetic cycle of works created during his journey of Dagestan. The paintings reflect not only the mysterious beauty of the heavenly nature of the country, but also the emotional depth and generosity of its people.

During the past 9 years Binyamin gained significant recognition: he became a member of the Artists Union of Russia and the International Artists Federation, a member of the American Western New York Artists Group, Williamsville Art Society. In addition, he was honorably awarded the Medal of the Artist’s Union of Russia and the International Artist’s Federation and the Russian Federation Order of PITER GRAIT by first power for his contribution in the Russian national cultural and science development.

B. Shalumov has presented his works at numerous personal and group exhibitions (20-Solo) worldwide: in Russia, USA, Canada, Europe. Moreover, his paintings were acquired by private collections in Russia, Canada, Great Britain, Sweden, Denmark, Israel, Switzerland, Czech Republic, the Ukraine and Kazakhstan. Shalumov's artwork is in the permanent collection of the Museum of European Art (USA), Moscow City Hall, the US Government Office in Moscow and many other businesses of the city of Moscow and various cultural organizations worldwide.
